Thai เกรงใจ grengjaiFeeling awkwardly obligated to do something for someone so they don't feel bad.

Dictionaries translate this word usually to "being too considerate, thoughtful, or polite". The translation is close to the meaning, but to me the true feeling is best described as: "you were invited to someone's home to eat dinner and they made something you really didn't like, but you ate it anyway in order to not hurt their feelings." Thai people are often seen as very polite to foreigners, but the concept of "grengjai" is well ingrained into their minds and they will often do things that they really don't want to do just to make sure others don't get upset.
