FrenchDépaysementThe feeling of being in another country.

This feeling is not necesarily obtained by traveling. For instance, in France, if people go to a restaurant with exotic decoration from another country, they would say that they get a strong feeling of "dépaysement", of breaking the routine and being in a far away country, even if the restaurant is next door to their home. Of course, strange and unfamiliar landscapes are the main source of dépaysement, of the disorienting feeling of "not being at home anymore."
