English brain drainWhen talented and educated people leave an economically underdeveloped region for greener pastures.

The more academic term for this is *human capital flight* but "brain drain" has more of a visceral punch to it. No one likes their brain to be drained, least those that are already suffering from cognitive dysfunction (i.e. regions already lacking educated people to further develop their society)! I've looked around a bit in other languages I'm familiar with and most just use the English term, or a direct translation which isn't as pungent as it won't rhyme.
